Argentina | Cordoba

Córdoba is seen as Argentina’s second capital, but life here is less expensive than in Buenos Aires. Its inhabitants are very open-minded and you can easily get into contact with them.

Córdoba was founded in 1573. The University of Córdoba is located in the centre of the densely populated province of the same name. The province of Córdoba is about the size of Germany, and is made of the parallel Sierra mountain chains and four big rivers. Here, you find many different landscapes: the Pampa and Sierra, the steppe covered with cactuses, rich forests, and fertile valleys.

This region lives mainly from the automobile industry and agriculture, and it has also developed a very good infrastructure for tourism. In summer, many towns prepare for Argentina’s holidaymakers. Places like Villa Carlos Paz, Cosquín, and Villa María have turned into real tourist centres, where old traditions are kept alive for visitors.

At the weekend, many inhabitants of Córdoba go into the mountains. The many rivers offer excellent opportunities for swimming. Those who prefer a calm place will easily find a nice little spot where they can enjoy the nature undisturbed by others. Not far from the town, there is a lake where you can indulge in many kinds of water sports. Córdoba offers something for everybody.

At night, you can choose between numerous discotheques and bars. Since Córdoba has a university, its nightlife is very lively. In the centre there is a mall with typical bars and discos. On the outskirts, you will also find areas of entertainment where you can when you want. One of these areas is near the legendary football stadium that was built in 1978 for the World Championship. After watching a passionate football game of the First Division team, you can just relax and enjoy the time there.

The capital itself has 1.2 million inhabitants and besides being a historical beauty with well-preserved buildings from colonial times, it is also a very interesting cultural centre. 80 000 students turn the city centre into a bustling place. All the cafes and bookshops are crowded, and in the evenings entertainment continues in pubs and music bars.
