Alicante is situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula on the Costa Blanca, one of the most beautiful coasts of Spain. The Romans called it ‘Lucentum’, city of light. This characterises this light-bathed town with palm trees everywhere, which opens itself towards the ocean and has a very pleasant climate.

People living here still take their ‘siesta’ seriously, and the word ‘stress’ is unknown to them. Spending time on the beautiful boulevards and promenades enjoying a ‘Horchata’ (almond milkshake) or a ‘Granizado’ (frozen lime drink) is very agreeable.

Alicante has preserved the charm of a Spanish university town in spite of being a centre of tourism on the Costa Blanca. Its nightlife is characterised by the students who keep the countless bars in the old town and in the harbour area alive until sunrise. The town has 280 000 inhabitants but everything is within easy walking distance; every now and then you will run into someone you know. So, in spite of its size, it feels more like a village than a big town

The town offers a great variety of entertainment. There are smart boulevards, a modern marina, the old part of town with its picturesque and interesting architecture, modern shopping malls and, of course the beach with its palm trees. All this will be a lasting memory for visitors.

The numerous sandy and rocky beaches in and near Alicante offer many leisure time opportunities. You can go sailing and surfing, and for snorkelling there are even some nature reserve areas. The mountains around Alicante are more than 1500 metres high, and offer hiking and climbing tours.

Alicante City has a number of cinemas, concert halls, and theatre stages presenting attractive and diverse cultural programs. And you should not miss the city’s nightlife in and around the countless bars.
