Salamanca is called the ‘City of Wisdom’ and in fact, the spirit of the venerable university, one of the first in Europe, is still felt everywhere. Because of its unique culture and history, in 2002 UNESCO declared Salamanca to be one of the world’s cultural heritage sites. Salamanca offers you an unforgettable experience through this charm that has won the hearts of many Spaniards and foreigners.

Salamanca has 180 000 inhabitants, 40 000 of whom are students. The university is one of the most famous in Europe and the city is also well known for its traditions. Strolling through the town, you will discover many different styles of arts, for example, the Spanish ‘platersca’ style, which is a very delicate form of decoration. Fine sculptures, ornaments and details characterise the image of ‘La Casa de las Conchas’, a Romanesque church. If you want to meet your friends, you simply go to the Plaza Mayor, because everybody meets in this beautiful square.
Salamanca offers a friendly atmosphere, nice people, great hospitality, and some other nice surprises. In 2002, Salamanca was chosen second in Spain for its beauty and safety. Almost all parts of the town can be reached by foot.
All through the day, this town offers a wonderful ambience with its great choice of cafes, tapas bars and discos, where you will find Spaniards as well as students of many nationalities. At night, groups of students in medieval garments come to the street cafes to entertain guests with their songs.
